Overview
The Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri, offers a rare treat in historic hotels: unfettered access to two historic city landmarks sharing the same street address. The Chase, built by and named after Chase Ullman, opened in 1922; seven years later construction started on the Park Plaza, brainchild of legendary hotelier Sam Koplar. During the Big Band scene, the hotel broadcasted such luminary performers as Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin and Bob Hope from its exclusive Chase Club, and at some point every U.S. president from the 1920s through the 1980s have called the Chase Park Plaza Hotel home.
After $100 million in renovation, this Art Deco property has 251 rooms, five restaurants, banquet and meeting facilities, a rooftop lounge, a five-screen cinema, a full spa and wellness center and a health club—all contained within one million square feet. Every detail has been accounted for, from marble hallways leading to towering ceilings graced with crystal chandeliers to the concessions offered in the five-screen cinema.
The Depression delayed the Park Plaza's construction until 1931.
