Eldridge Hotel

Overview

The Eldridge is Lawrence's most luxurious hotel. Located in the heart of the exciting downtown area, the hotel is surrounded by many shops, galleries, dining and entertainment venues. Built in 1926, The Eldridge is one of four hotels to occupy the current site dating back to 1856 when it originally opened as the Free State Hotel. The 48 room, all-suite property, reopened in May of 2005 after undergoing a total renovation. The hotel features a full service restaurant, lounge, exquisite banquet space, room service and valet parking. Occupying the "most historic corner in Kansas," The Eldridge is truly the place where history and hospitality converge.

The Free State and later Eldridge Hotel were powerful symbols and easy targets in the hotly contested border dispute of the 1850s and 1860s.
